Located in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest on the Rockcastle River, The Riverside is home to miles of trails, pristine woods and rock formations, and secluded primitive campsites. Fish, kayak, swim or just enjoy the scenery!

    Great Saltpetre Preserve Open House for 2025:
    Saturday, May 17, 2025 – 10am to 3:30pm (gate entry closes; last cave tour at 3:30pm)
    Sunday, May 18, 2025 – 10am to 3:30pm. (gate entry closes; last cave tour at 3:30pm)
    (Note: The Open House is always the weekend after Mother’s Day.)

    Admission is free, but donations to the Preserve are always appreciated!

    Directions: I-75 to Exit 59 (Mt Vernon/Livingston). Go East on Route 25 for about 100 yards. Turn Left onto route 1004, continue on route 1004 about 4 miles until it comes to a “T” (Just past RR tracks and cement bridge). Turn right and continue about 5 miles farther to the Great Saltpetre Preserve.

    The Renfro Valley Dual Sport is a two-day charity event showcasing South Central Kentucky's beautiful trails and landscapes. The unique annual 100-mile-per-day ride is for moderate- to expert-level dirt bikers who are fully licensed to operate on rural Kentucky roads. Riders have the option of using roll-chart route sheets or GPS. The event is held rain or shine, and registration is non-refundable.
