DESCRIPTION:The next Great Saltpetre Cave Preserve Open House is: \nSaturday\, May 18\, 2024 – 10am to 3:30pm\nSunday\, May 19\, 2024 – 10am to 3:30pm. \n(Note: The Open House is always the weekend after Mother’s Day.) \nGreat Saltpetre Cave was a significant source of saltpeter for gunpowder during the War of 1812. (Note: “saltpetre” is the old spelling.)\nThe property has been an important part of the Rockcastle County community. Join us for: \n\nGuided tours of the Cave.\nFree soup beans and corn bread.\nFood concession stand operated by the Livingston Fire Department.\nSouvenir concession stand.\nMiles of hiking trails.\nBring a picnic lunch.\n\nThe public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Bring the whole family for a great day of interesting fun. The free cave tours last 45 to 60 minutes. The cave has electric lights. The cave floor is generally flat.  Dress for the cave environment – comfortable shoes and a sweat shirt. The cave is 57 degrees year-round. DESCRIPTION:Renfro Valley Dual Sport Motorcycle Ride will be held on May 4th and 5th. The ride is on challenging trails and scenic winding roads that wind through teh Daniel Boone Forest. Much of this course is used only once a eyar during this dual sport ride. You’ll get to take in the view of the beautiful scenery and famous landmarks. Come join us for plenty of fun! There is NO limit on the number of riders. Riding miles is 90-100 miles each day. \nRegistration will be held at KY Music Hall of Fame & Museum at 2590 Richmond Road\, Mt. Vernon\, KY 40456. DESCRIPTION:Doug Stone found his mark in music as a lonesome baritone balladeer\, although he was very adept at hard-up-tempo country. He debuted with the single\, “I’d Be Better Off (In a Pine Box)\,”This album produced a handful of chart-topping singles. Following these songs was his first number one\, “In a Different Light”. In addition\, the single was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Song. The Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of one million copies. Two more albums for Epic\, 1992’s From The Heart and 1994’s More Love\, were each certified gold. Stone has charted –twenty-two singles on Hot Country Songs\, with his greatest chart success coming between 1990 and 1995. In this time span\, he charted eight Number Ones including: “In a Different Light”\, “A Jukebox and a Country Song”\, “Too Busy Being in Love”\, “Addicted to a Dollar”\, and “Why Didn’t I think of That” to name a few\, plus fifteen more Top Five singles”.

Hailed as “part Stax\, part Motown and part honky-tonk” by The New York Times\, Hicks’ intoxicating blend of soul\, blues\, country\, and rock ‘n’ roll quickly rendered him a household name as he progressed to the show’s record-breaking finale in 2006\, a historic television event which drew an audience of more than 200 million viewers. Hicks immediately followed his “American Idol” victory with a No. 1 Billboard single and an RIAA®-certified platinum debut\, and soon went on to make history as both the first male “American Idol” champion featured on a GRAMMY-winning record (Jimmy Fallon’s Blow Your Pants Off)\, and the first to land a prestigious Las Vegas residency. A versatile artist\, actor and advocate\, Hicks has since ventured into theater\, television and film\, starring in Serenbe Playhouse’s 2019 production of “Shenandoah\,” touring as Teen Angel in the popular Broadway musical “Grease” in addition to appearing on “Law & Order: SVU” and hosting the INSP series “State Plate\,” which won the Cynopsis TV Award for Best Reality Series (Travel). SUMMARY:AN ALWAYS LORETTA CHRISTMAS WITH THE COALMINERS AT RENFRO VALLEY
DESCRIPTION:Like so many successful performers\, native Kentuckian Emily Portman cut her musical teeth singing in church and learning to read music as a member of her high school band. Inspired by her parents’ music\, her influences were an amalgamation of classic country and classic rock\, with a little ‘80s music mixed in and included Merle Haggard\, Jim Croce\, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. In college\, she joined a choral group\, learned the guitar\, and began performing professionally at the Corydon Jamboree just across the border in neighboring Indiana. However\, when she covered the music of Loretta Lynn\, people took notice. \nAt an early age\, perhaps due to her Kentucky roots and natural inflection\, Emily was told that she\, “sounded a lot like” country music legend\, Loretta Lynn\, so she became a student of her artistry. Emily pored over the singer’s entire catalogue of music and began working to emulate Loretta’s vocal style and her onstage mannerisms.In the summer of 2004\, Emily entered a “Sing Like” contest at the Kentucky Opry and won $1\,000 for her portrayal of Loretta. \nJust a couple years later\, after posting a video of herself performing a Loretta Lynn song on YouTube\, she was discovered by Michael Twitty (eldest son of the great Conway Twitty) who cast her to portray Loretta in the nationally touring musical “It’s Only MakeBelieve.” The musical was instrumental in establishing Portman’s career. Over the next two decades\, herportrayal of the Coal Miner’s Daughter would carry to the most prestigious stages (including the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry)\, where she would rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in the business\, including George Jones\, Archie Campbell\, Vern Gosdin\, Toby Keith\, Chris Cagle\, and even Loretta Lynn\, herself\, with whom she formed a close friendship. \nEmily made frequent trips to Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills\,TN. During one of her visits\, the two singers were enjoying a casual conversation when\, in mid-sentence\, Lynn paused\, looked at her straight in the eyes and said\, “ya’ know\, we have a real connection\, don’t we?” If you ever saw the two performers together\, the connection they shared was obvious.After Ms. Lynn’s unfortunate recent passing\, Emily Portman connected with Loretta’s longtime backup band\, The Coalminers. They have been frequent guests on RFD network’s ‘Larry’s Country Diner’\, and also appeared on the Gaither Homecoming Videos and Tours for over 20 years. The Isaacs have won 9 Dove Awards and their latest 3 albums have received Grammy nominations! They have performed the National Anthem at many professional sporting events including NFL\, MLB\, NBA and NHL games. The Isaacs and it’s members have been invited to perform on many gospel\, bluegrass and country artist albums and stages including: Dolly Parton\,Paul Simon\, The Oak Ridge Boys\, Don Williams\, George Jones\, Merle Haggard\, Trace Adkins\, Trisha Yearwood\, Vince Gill\, Reba McEntire\, Brad Paisley\, Dierks Bentley\, Alabama\, Craig Morgan\, Josh Turner\, Alison Krauss\, Natalie Grant\, Connie Smith\, Marty Stuart\, Ricky Skaggs\, and many others. The Isaacs have a non-profit organization called The Isaacs Foundation that blesses the less fortunate in America. They also have a branch called the Fishman Isaacs Israel Initiative that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to bless Israel\, specifically Holocaust Survivors\, Israeli “Lone” Soldiers and orphans.
